In Search of Autumn

Last Sunday my husband and I went for a drive in the local mountains. I had my trusty camera in hand and he had his fishing gear primed and ready to use when the moment moved him. Together we journeyed through back roads and winding trails in our trusty ‘ole grandpa truck (green 1997 Dodge ram). Often peeking over dizzying mountain roads (why is the passenger side is always facing the edge) in search of beautiful fall colors.Anxious to find autumn's glorious rusty reds, golden hues and brightly colored leaves.

We made a few new friends

and a few that simply turned their backs on us.

fishing was good and plenty were caught and released
But, nature’s canvas was muted. Colors were pale and the mountainsides had more brown than rusty reds.

What’s going on? I asked, where is the beauty of autumn? My wonderful husband shrugged and said, “To dry babe”. Simple as that, to dry! What? We’re in the mountains and the first day of fall was the 22nd of September. Didn’t Mother Nature get the memo? But then on our way home, right there in our area, I found this!  So the mountains may not know it's autumn but our neighborhoods sure do.

Is it autumn where you live?

The Gift Of Grace

Today I received a package in the mail. I won a giveaway from
3 Little Birds Boutique!

3littlebirds
This lovely prize was titled "A Gift of Grace".

Winning this prize in Kristen's generous giveaway is a fortunate coincidence. As many of you know I live by the personal philosophy of greeting each day with grace, dignity, and gratitude. These are not just words said but words lived.

Printed inside the philosophy box is the following: how you climb up the mountain is just as important as how you get down the mountain, and so it is with life. Which for many of us becomes one big gigantic test followed by one big gigantic lesson. In the end, it all comes down to one word, Grace. It's how you accept winning and losing, good luck and bad luck, the darkness and the light.

I am sincerely grateful for this lovely prize and for the message shared.

For each of you I send sincere wishes for Grace, in all you do, in all lessons taught, lessons learned, and in all mountains climbed.

Busy Bee

I’m still suffering from the dreaded writers block, nope can’t take a pill for that one. My husband and I went for a nature hike up in the mountains not far from our home this weekend. We spent the day discovering some wonderful things and I took a lot of photos. I found this busy bee hard at work.
Thank you for sticking with me through my slow writing spell, let’s hope it’s over soon.

P.S. picked some fresh veggies and herbs from our garden, I’m ready to sauté :onion, zucchini, and tomatoes in olive oil with fresh basil, oregano and garlic yummy!

March Madness Anticipation

The month of March is here and at our home this month carries with it a lot of anticipation.

March lures us to venture outside from our winter hibernation with its tempting hints of spring. Even though our common sense tells us these “spring like” days will be quickly replaced with another snow storm any moment. We turn a blind eye to the snow shovel leaning in the corner of our garage as we wander outdoors and rub the winter sleep from our eyes.

March brings on “March Madness” when my husband eats drinks and breathes basketball. Yelling at the television, jumping up and down while pumping your fist in the air and doing the “happy dance” are all accepted behavior.

It sends me into early Spring cleaning and sorting. I tackle my least favorite chore, cleaning the window blinds. While I clean each blind I peer out at the blue sky and the grass peeking through the melting snow. I easily drift into a dream like state as I picture backyard barbeques just around the corner.

March also brings with it one of our favorite activities. Bike riding! A couple of years ago we bought ourselves custom bicycles for our anniversary present. I went all retro, with white wall tires, fenders, a basket (not pictured)and even a little bell. My husband kept his sleek and sporty and only added a wire holder for a water bottle. We can’t wait to get our wheels turning. It’s healthy, it’s fun and it’s eco friendly!

As I bask in the 45˚-50˚ weather I know that a storm is brewing and the lake will remain frozen a bit longer and the blanketed mountains will stay white a bit longer too. But, my optimism and desire for spring stay strong in anticipation for Spring.
