Black Friday Freeze Out

Ahh Black Friday, just the name send chills down my spine. The image of eager shoppers desperate for a bargain. Their red noses pressed, or frozen to the shop doors at the ungodly hour of 3:00 am! Giggle, I was one of those anxious shoppers many years ago. After a tug of war over a sweater ensued, reminiscent of an old Laverne and Shirley episode I decided you can count me out.
I know the deals are amazing, but all deals are. I stand stead fast that black Friday will remain blacked out on my calendar.

Never again will I withstand the harsh winter wind that freezes even the smallest nose drizzle to your nostril. Never again will I endure the pushing, shoving, and sometimes ridiculous behavior of the half awake holiday bargain shoppers. That's right, I shout loudly, not I my friend!

But, to those of you who dare participate in this ongoing ritual. I send praise for your fortitude, your perseverance, and your savvy shopping skills. I lend you my cozy mittens and pat you on the back with a smile. I wish you well on your journey. God speed and happy shopping. I'll be her drinking tea.

Bubbles or Isn't it Ironic

I slowly poured lavender scented bubbling bath salts into the steady stream of warm water in my bathtub as I prepared for a tranquil spa like sanctuary. I lit a lavender scented candle (making sure to maintain the same aroma as the bubbles.)I pushed "play" on the cd player and heard soothing jazz sounds filling my dimly lit bathroom. I eased myself into the bubble filled bathtub and began to descend into the warm water surrounded by bubbles……
I quickly discovered the bath salts hadn’t all dissolved. My bum was sitting on what could only be described as wet sandpaper. I tried not to move too much as I brushed the offending rough salts away with my hand. Then again I slid into the calming lavender scented tub. The fragrant bubbles were…….. over powering ….The lavender scented bubbles were stinging my eyes and the bubbles were spilling out onto the floor.
My bum was chaffed, my nose was burning, and my eyes were watering. I blindly fumbled for the tap to run cool water to calm down the bubbles as I sightlessly searched for a towel to wipe the offensive bubbles from my eyes and nose. I bumped the tap with my elbow (funny bone) causing the water temperature to drop rapidly.
But, determined to fulfill my spa like sanctuary I lowered myself slowly into the tepid water. I cleared my mind drifting off into the smooth jazz sounds filling the air…..ding dong, ding dong, the smooth….ding dong, ding dong,….! I stood up covered in bubbles which quickly found their way to the floor. I grabbed my robe knowing I had to answer such a distressing and repetitive door bell ring. I managed to avoid slipping in the bubble puddle and ding, dong, I answered the door………………………..ding dong! Standing in front of me with apple cheeks and a sweet smile, was a little girl with a wagon full of things for sale. She asked me in a soft voice “would you like to buy some scented bath salts?”

Because of the Crinkles

Looking in the mirror this morning I thought of one of my favorite moments.  I am re posting this blog I hope you don't mind.

Over the Christmas holiday my  granddaughter  and I were looking through some old photos.
She came across my graduation photo (circa 1978 see photo) and I told her a bit about that time when I was younger. She listened closely and then when I was finished she said, “Grandma it just doesn’t look like you”. When I asked why she simply stated “because of the crinkles”.

The crinkles I asked?

“Yes”, she replied and gently squeezed her thumb and forefinger to pinch the laugh lines (crow’s feet) at the corner of my eye. “They’re right here”, she said.
I laughed so hard.
Then she mentioned the laugh lines on the corner of my mouth, and she proceeded to squish her face with great zeal as she tried to create crinkles of her own.I assured her that her crinkles

will come after a well lived life filled with lots of love and laughter.

I am so fortunate to have a face graced with crinkles. Because, it’s little priceless moments just like that one that makes every crinkle well deserved and worth having.

I wish you many crinkles!
