Holiday Posting Continues with My Christmas Shoes

I'm continuing my Christmas Holiday posting by re-posting my Christmas Shoes poem, I hope you like it.

My Christmas Shoes

I turned on the light and threw open the door.
The closet was full from ceiling to floor.
My shoes were all lined up in nice tidy rows.
Some high and some low, and some even with bows.
They shined and they sparkled and were in all different colors.
Some even looked just like the others.
Today I will sort them and decide which to choose.
So I search and I sort and I find the best pairs.
I stack them on floors.
Put them in boxes, and on chairs.
I package them up in a box marked from Kate.
It’s Christmas you see, and it’s time to donate.
I give all year long and at holidays too.
So out they will go ,to be someone’s new shoes.
What’s next you might ask?
Well it’s easy for me.
The coat closet for sure, no one needs more than three.

A Peaceful Place

One of my favorite vacation destinations is the Oregon coast, specifically Cannon Beach. It is a quiet little seaside community filled with artists, restaurants and calm. Absolute perfection! A familiar site from films and landscapes can be found there, Haystack rock.

My husband and I enjoy tide pooling. So we take the five minute trip from Cannon Beach to the local National Park. We wait patiently, for the tide to go out. I meditate while my husband wanders the shore line. We watch surfers of all ages ride the waves. We look for sand dollars and abandoned shells along the beach and we sit on our blanket with our toes digging into the sand.

The warmth of the day begins to fade as the tide finally makes its way out. Revealing amazing sea life close enough to touch ( do not touch) starfish, anemones of bright green and yellow, jelly fish and little tiny crabs, all waiting for the tide to once again return them to the water. Carefully we watch these amazing creatures and grin ear to ear as we climb like young children carefully on the rocks and jump across puddles. It is truly a peaceful place.

Christmas is coming Christmas is coming!

Christmas is coming, Christmas is coming!
I love this time of year. I’ve already decked the halls and joined the chorus. There’s no mistaking it, Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. I have cinnamon scented candles burning and carols playing. I’ve hung the wreaths on the doors and filled the candy cane jars. Bring on the non stop Christmas carols on the radio and in every shop, I plan to sing along.

Light covered houses and school Christmas programs, soggy wet mittens and red runny noses, yes, yes, yes bring it on!

I’ve made two trips to drop off food at the local food bank and I’m gathering some toys for the toys for tot’s donation. I’ve made my list for my four beautiful grandchildren and I’m, ready to fill it! Christmas is coming, Christmas is coming!

Merry Christmas everyone! Seasons Greetings, Happy Hanukah and Happy Kwanzaa too!

Pumpkin Patch

Fall is here and that means a trip to the pumpkin patch with our lovely grandchildren will soon occur. Every year we trek out to the muddy farm about 10 miles down the road. We wait patiently for the hay bail filled trailer to arrive. We climb aboard and hold on for dear life as the noisy tractor pulls the trailer through every bumpy bit of the farm. Each of us clinging tightly to each other as we smile and shake like jelly sitting atop our hay bails.
We anxiously await the arrival at the pumpkin filled field. Brightly colored orange gourds beacon us as we maneuver through the muddy field filled with future jack o lanterns. Each of us begins searching through miles of squash in hopes of finding the perfect one for carving. Our granddaughter Mckenna is a tiny little 6 year old and she inevitably finds the biggest pumpkin in the filed and declares it her own. We enlist the aid of a fork lift, well actually grandpa’s arms, to load it onto the trailer. Our oldest granddaughter Savannah (9) always seems to gravitate to the odd shaped ones. Our other two other grandchildren (Emma 5 and Noah almost 2) prefer the little pumpkins that they’d rather paint than carve. Oh, I just can’t wait to make the trip to the pumpkin patch this season.
Happy Fall everyone!

P.S. The light colored pumpkins are easier to carve. Try applying a coat of petroleum jelly to the carved edges to help keep them from drying out. If your jack o lantern starts to shrivel, try soaking it in a bucket of cold water over night to revive it. Try using a flameless candle( battery powered) to light your jack o lantern .
